Report 5: Chelsea Handler
1. Chelsea Handler, no matter how unbelievable as it seems, is one of the best comical writers of all time. You might wonder how she can be so successful as a writer, talk show host, comedian, actress, and more, but somehow she is able to without slacking on one single career. I enjoyed her talk show, Chelsea, Lately, first and then my friends and siblings mentioned her books and let me borrow them. She writes her books in her own quirky, straightforward way and her life experiences are absolutely hysterical. Even though I have been too busy reading books for school and have not had the time to completely read all her books, I am still a huge fan.

This review points out the pros and cons of the book Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang. A pro is that Chelsea is consistent with her funny, dry humored stories, but the review has that Handler loses focus and her stories last too long as a con. I agree her stories can be long sometimes, but they are nevertheless still hilarious. The review emphasizes how much her fans with enjoy the book, but can be questionable for non-fans.

"Light, Fluffy, No Calories-and No Content" is how this review simplifies the book My Horizontal Life. The review attacks the American literate public for enjoying the book rather than Handler for writing it. The reviewer obviously should not have read the book if they are so against the sexual part of it because it is explicitly going to be about her sex life, as told from the title. In the end, the reviewer did laugh from the book, but just suggests you should not buy it, but borrow it.

The self-proclaimed Book Club Babe describes Handler to be an "acquired taste" after reading Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea. The reviewer states that if you're easily offended then this is not the book for you, which I agree with because you could not hand this book to most people and expect them not to be offended if they do not understand her humor. I also agree that if, prior to reading the book, you think that Handler is more entertaining than obnoxious, then it will be sure hit for you.

“There are two kinds of people I don't trust: people who don't drink and people who collect stickers.”
3. Chelsea Handler grew up in Livingston, New Jersey, the youngest of six, and as a reformed Jew. Chelsea describes her life beginning by struggling financially even though her family has a summer house on Martha's Vineyard. The experiences that affected her the most were when her brother Chet died when she was 10 years old and when she had an abortion when she was 16 years old. Finally, when she was 19 she moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue her career, first as an actress and then ultimately as a comedian.
All four of Chelsea Handler's books have been on the New York Times Best Seller List, with three making it to number one.
4. What makes Chelsea Handler special is her dry humor. Her jokes are regularly about the subject of sex, casual racism, and alcoholism. Many people criticize this and become very offended, but it is just Chelsea's true personality and beliefs. Nothing about Chelsea is fake and she does not hide anything.

“My relationship with my father had been on the proverbial fritz since the time I was fifteen and called the police to report him for child molesting. He had never molested me, but I wanted to have a party that weekend and needed him out of the house.”
